| Any of the following horseback riding tours are possible in both directions. From Monteverde to La Fortuna or from Arenal Volcano to Monteverde. In the dry season (December to July) you can go via El Castillo or via Rio Chiquito, the old trade trail from the Pacific to the Caribbean side. You will have lake and volcano view along the way as well as you ride in the jungle. Coming down before we follow the path in the farmland we have to cross the river 3 times. No river crossing on the Rio Chiquito route. We recommend a better alternative to this ride. | |

In the wet season (August to January way up in the mountain) we do not go. The path is even in dry season only reasonable dry. We had too many complains. People and Horses are unnecessarily getting in danger on muddy slippery trails. There is also no other way out of the mountain than by horse or on foot. Serious operators, that have been riding on this trails themselves do not consider this trail as an option. |

In any season, weather and children save - may be wet - is the horseback ride Monteverde - Arenal Volcano along Lake Arenal (photo below). You will have lake and volcano view along the way at all times as well as you ride along the jungle. A quick boat transfer brings you to the other side of the lake. |
